What are the limits of art in your choice ted talk? This is a confusing question, I’m not sure what limits are being asked about. Id say the influence art can have in the ted talk I chose (Dre Urhahn) is limitless. They can most defiantly change the world with their project. The art is limited in its resources, the project needs funding and people whiling to work on it. If the project has funding and people from the neighborhood painting it, the art work is extremely powerful. When everyone in the neighborhood agrees to work on painting an area or a street you bring the community together on a project to better the community they live in. What Urhahn and Koolhaas did in the favela in Rio has inspired the community to continue to work on their neighborhood. The project brings people together and allows them to take part in making where they live into a beautiful peace if art work. This project can be applied to any community as well. Not only did it work in the slums of Rio, its found success in the north end of Philadelphia. Two completely different communities coming together to improve the neighborhood through art.

One thing that really stood out to me in Peter blog is that he started of by asking a question. He got the reader to really think and question what they think of art. I really liked how he used information from the TED talk to support his information. The more supporting details he had the more persuasive his blog became.

I liked how you expressed the openness of the question “what are the limits of art”. I agree with you that it is a confusing question and that art influences. I also believe the limits of art are minimal compared to the power that Dre Urhahn is giving the favelas by creating something beautiful. I liked how you mentioned the aspect of community and how it allows the members to work together and form a bond to make their neighborhood something to be proud of. I like how you mentioned that it can have success anywhere because it truly speaks to the power of art. Overall, I enjoyed reading your blog post.

I like that you started with a question, it makes you want to read to see if you will answer the question. I chose the same TED talk and I agree with everything you stated in this blog. I think having Urhahn and Koolhaas orchestrate this whole project really made the community come together as one. It brightened up the community and I think that feeling is priceless! I also like how you explained the TED talk and the affects it had on the community and citizens

I love your enthusiasm–but, I’m going to play devil’s advocate and argue that painting a pretty picture on the exterior of a building cannot fix mold problems or structural issues. It can’t put food into bellies or heal the sick. Plenty of horrible acts have occurred in beautiful settings. Continue to challenge yourself to see art for what it is and for what it isn’t.
