The arts and sciences, the intellectuals vs the free thinker. we have not yet seen anyone able to mix and match these in education, nor will we. art and science are like polar and nonpolar, you do not often find them together. of course, many will probably disagree on the grounds that it’s unrealistic to implement art with science, engineering, and math. yo-yo ma is one of these skeptics “the values behind arts integration collaboration, flexible thinking, and disciplined imagination lead to the capacity to innovate” framing these values as if they only belong to art but science already has these incorporated them. yes, there are certain times when you have to think creatively in science but art for art’s sake does not pose any useful ideas sciences exploration. one could even argue that there is an art to science a beauty to science but this argument is a different one. the skeptics believe in the art with no purpose just for its beauty, but science always has a purpose. this is why yo-yo ma’s STEAM could never really be put into place, the idea looks good on paper but the core values of art and science are opposites. science per say is to find the answer but art, on the other hand, there is no answer. Therefore these could not mix and match in our schools.

I thought you did a really good job finding points logical points to argue against Yo Yo Ma! I know I had a hard time with that and tried to stick with the STEM thing. I specifically liked what you said about science for science’s sake and art for art’s sake, that was creative.

I really liked what Peter had to say for his claim. I think that incorporating science like polar and nonpolar really helped supported his idea and what he had to say. As a reader he made you think why is this important and how yoyo mama was unable to tie these two topic together. Great job overall!
